Are you a history buff? Then the Fête Médiévale de Guérande is for you! This incredible event takes place in the heart of the peninsula, just a few kilometers from La Baule and Saint-Nazaire, in the Loire-Atlantique region of western France. Last year, some 40,000 people flocked to the town for this authentic, timeless experience.
For its Fête Médiévale, Guérande takes you back to the 14th and 15th centuries. Over 500 volunteers don period costumes to bring the event to life. Would you like to take part in this unique festival? Book your first weekend in June at our campsite in Loire-Atlantique!
Activities at the Fête Médiévale de Guérande
So, are you ready to join us in the Loire-Atlantique region for a holiday full of adventure? The Fête Médiévale de Guérande offers a wide range of activities for young and old alike:
- A traditional market and a medieval fair are set up so that you can buy products on the theme of the Middle Ages. On sale: handicrafts, jewelry, clothing…
- You’ll be amazed by the street performances. Lots of talented artists take part in these shows, singing and dancing on stage, day and night. And there’s plenty more to come: theater, juggling, comedy… You want our opinion? Don’t forget your camera!
- The town sets up medieval camps with taverns and tutti quanti. The aim? To recreate history and let you experience the daily life of people in the Middle Ages.
- Equestrian events take place during the Fête Médiévale in Guérande, near Saint-Nazaire. We’re talking knights’ tournaments, where armored riders compete in jousts. An event not to be missed!
- On Sunday morning, a costume parade takes place through the lively streets of the town, with knights, musicians, jugglers… Everyone is welcome to join in.
- Younger visitors can enjoy a range of activities at the Fête Médiévale de Guérande, specially designed for their age group: shield-making workshops, medieval storytelling, period games…
And that’s not all! You’ll also have the chance to sample medieval street food (pork on the spit, wood-fired bread, peasant soup…). And why not take the opportunity to join a guided tour of the town, highlighting its medieval history?
