The coves of Pen Bé Bay
The great feature of the Bay of Pen-Bé is that it is interspersed with bathing creeks. The beaches range from the pointe de Pen-Bé to the plage de Pont-Mahé.
The starting point is the best-known “Baie des Dames”, the first sandy beach sheltered from the wind, offering a unique panorama of the Pointe de Merquel lighthouse at Mesquer.
Right next door, you’ll find the more secluded and wilder “Plage des Messieurs”. Some dare to jump off the rocks, and it’s great fun to watch them on your towel or sitting on a bench!
If you continue walking along the path, you’ll admire the wild coastline and its inaccessible coves at high tide, a real nesting ground for the birds that come here to rest.
However, at each low tide, among the rocks, fishermen are sure to fill their baskets with mussels, biogorneaux, oysters, clams, shrimps… The Bay of Pen-Bé is also a not-to-be-missed site on the shellfish route.
Next, you’ll pause in wonder at the Landes de Pen-Bé. Surrounded by wild flowers, you’ll take in the view of Pénestin’s Pointe du Bile, Mesquer and Piriac sur Mer. A panorama conducive to meditation.
Then, the beach of “La Marche aux Boeufs” followed by the more discreet “Créno” will be the last sandy coves before the large beach of Pont-Mahé. These last coves are ideal for lazing around sheltered from the wind, or for paddle-boarding or kayaking!
